Helmets are effective, but only if the Soldier is comfortable enough to wear it

Kits: 30. Hometown: Kentucky / Alaska. Heard about us: Google Search for better helmet pads. Duties: Mounted and Dismounted Infantry, Base Defense, QRF. Current pads: Ceradyne Grey Glued Basic Issue Pads. Comments: The issued pads that we received are extremely stiff and cause our helmets to sit higher than intended. Most of the Soldiers in my Squad have resorted to removing some of the pads to get a better fit and relieve head pressure, sacrificing blast protection. The basic issue helmet pads are garbage and need to be replaced with a better solution. Ballistic Helmets are effective, but only if the Soldier is comfortable enough to wear it without pain. SGT, US Army

Kits: 8. Heard about us: Google. Duties: Convoy ops, QRF, perimeter security. Current pads: Foliage green GI pads. Comments: The GI pads are hard and squeeze our heads making the helmet sit way too high and cause headaches. Personally, I threw mine away almost immediately and currently use a Flight helmet liner which is just tough bubble wrap. SGT, US Army

Kits: 27. Hometown: St. Louis MO.. Heard about us: Battle Buddy. Duties: Support Convoy and security for new locations. Current pads: Green pads. Comments: Hello, Anything you could do to help my soldiers out would be greatly appreciated as we are about to push North from our current location. SSG, US Army

Kits: 2. Hometown: Pass Christian. Heard about us: battle buddy. Duties: infantry. Current pads: none. Comments: I have messed up pads that need to be thrown away. PFC, US Army

Kits: 10. Hometown: Long island, NY. Heard about us: Friend. Duties: Infantry. Current pads: Sewn seam. Comments: Pads are stiff especially in cold weather and do not allow proper fit. Also makes the helmet uncomfortable so paratroopers do not like wearing it.. Sgt, US Army
