Removing pads can cause brain injury

Here’s an email from a Marine Corps Recon unit: . Duties: MARITIME RAIDS, RECONNAISSANCE, ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING ELSE.. Current Pads: GRAY STANDARD ISSUE PADS. Comments: I AM REQUESTING HELMET PADS FOR MY WHOLE FORCE RECONNAISANCE TEAM, WE ARE DEPARTING ON A MARINE EXPEDITIONARY UNIT AS THE MARITIME RAID FORCE. MY TM HAS BEEN COMPLAINING ABOUT THEIR HELMET PADS FOR QUITE SOME TIME AND ALWAYS END UP TAKING SOME PADS OUT SO THEIR HELMETS FIT BETTER.

Obviously unsafe. Quite likely to decrease protection from both ballistic and non-ballistic impact as well as allowing blast wave ‘underwash’ to helmet interior with resulting increase in brain injury.
